Qualifications
As a not-for-profit state agency whose
mission is to provide technology transfer in energy and sustainability, the Brooks
Energy & Sustainability Lab (BESL) is uniquely qualified to perform these services.
- BESL is working with local utility
company and other
partners in implementing
Integrated Energy System (IES) projects in San Antonio.
- BESL has a mission that emphasizes
technology transfer, so that all activities will include to the extent
possible educational, demonstration, or training aspects.
- BESL state agency status facilitates
inter-governmental agreements and transfers.
- BESL holds several federal contracts.
- BESL has a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
- The BESL organization is a member of
the Building Commissioning Association and U.S. Green Buildings Council (USGBC),
indicating their full participation in the commissioning industry.
BESL has four LEEDTM (Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design)
Accredited Professionals on their team.
- BESL's technical director is the incoming
Secretary of ASHRAE's Technical Committee 9.9 (Building Commissioning), and is
currently the chair of the subcommittee on research an indication of our organizations role
in broader industry development.
- BESL's technical director was a member of
ASHRAE technical committee that drafted a guideline for Measurement of Energy
and Demand Savings (Guideline 14-2002), indicating their leadership role in
the area of Measurement and Verification.
- BESL currently advises on the San Antonio
Green Building Program Development Council.
- BESL staff member writes Tech Tips, a
monthly technical article on Sustainability Techniques and Materials.
- BESL staff member advises the Air Force on
Sustainable Design.
- BESL has the number one expert in the
country on Indoor Air Quality on staff, Dr. Charlene Bayer.
- BESL staff member advises on Bio-terrorism
prevention.
