Our Mission

BESL transfers technology to enhance the cost-effectiveness, life-cycle performance, and livability of facilities and infrastructures.

BESL will leverage its resources to carry out its mission through partnerships and alliances with government agencies, public and private firms, institutions, and associations.

BESL Methodology

BESL is a world class Laboratory of Excellence that provides quality opportunities to create and maintain high performance buildings through optimizing energy efficiency, ensuring sustainability, and promoting healthy, safe, secure, and productive environments. Policy advocating incentives for these opportunities is equally important.

The major objective of BESL is to implement technology transfer of state-of-the-art energy and sustainability technology to federal, state, and local governments, institutions, private industry, and the public in general.  We do technology transfer in the following ways:

  • Provide tech transfer by performing services based on university/institution developed technologies.  In this case, these services are provided by the BESL technical staff.
  • Provide tech transfer by employing the technology developer or expert directly to provide services.  BESL employs the technical experts of GTRI and TEES and their other partner institutions directly to provide these services.  BESL remains as a technical program manager responsible for accomplishment of the work.
  • BESL can make available to businesses licensable technologies developed by GTRI or TEES.  BESL will partner with the business in the development of technology applications and assist in the development of market opportunities.
